Forsyth County Sheriff's investigators have charged a Kernersville man in connection with an attempted armed robbery in Walkertown.

Workers at the Wendy's restaurant on Reidsville Road told deputies that a man in a white van drove up to the drive-thru window yesterday and demanded money. The witnesses said the man appeared to have some kind of weapon wrapped in a gray sweatshirt.

The cashier immediately closed the window and did not give the man any money.

A deputy spotted a vehicle matching the one used in the attempted robbery in Walkertown several hours later, said Forsyth County Sheriff Maj. Brad Stanley.

Todd Jonas Hicks, 37, of 5924 Timberwood Trail in Kernersville, was charged with attempted common-law robbery. He also was charged with common-law robbery in connection with an unrelated case, authorities said.

Hicks is being held in the Forsyth County jail under a $105,000 bond.
