SEOUL, South Korea -- A South Korean news report said today that North Korean military intelligence officers are investigating two American journalists on suspicion of espionage.

The mass-circulation JoongAng Ilbo newspaper reported that the two female journalists were sent to Pyongyang on Wednesday after their arrest by North Korean guards. The report said that the two crossed the border from China while reporting on North Korean refugees.

The report said that North Korea is investigating the journalists' cameras, videotapes and notebooks for evidence of spying on the North's military installations.
