UCF beats East Carolina 74-71

ORLANDO, Fla. --

Jermaine Taylor scored 36 points, converting on a three-point play with 28 second left, to propel Central Florida to a 74-71 win over East Carolina on Saturday night in the Conference USA regular-season finale for both teams.
Taylor, the nation's third-leading scorer (26.2), helped the Knights (17-13, 7-9) snap a four-game skid with his late heroics on senior day.
After Taylor's late layup and free throw gave UCF a 72-71 lead, the Pirates (13-16, 5-11) attempted to hold the ball for a last shot. But Sam Hinnant, who scored 22 for ECU, was called for an offensive foul with 2.7 seconds remaining while driving down the lane.

It's the second time this season Central Florida has rallied to win after trailing by 17 or more in the second half - the first time coming against Tulsa on February 14. The Knights dropped their only other matchup against the Pirates in an 89-75 loss at East Carolina on Feb. 7.
Taylor's 3-pointer gave UCF its first lead of the game at 59-58 with 6:26 remaining. Isaac Sosa capped a 15-0 Knights run with another 3-pointer 35 seconds later.
Kenrick Zondervan finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for UCF.
Jamar Abrams and James Legan added 13 points apiece for East Carolina.
The Pirates built a 37-23 halftime lead by shooting 55 percent from the floor. Central Florida missed 19 of its first 25 shots from the floor and wound up shooting 26 percent in the first half (9-for-35) while committing seven turnovers.
