Wilkes woman charged with embezzlement

A Wilkes County woman has been charged with five counts of felony embezzlement in connection with $209,000 taken from her employer since late 2005, according to the Wilkesboro Police Department.
Chastity Marie Austin, 33, of Purlear, turned herself in to police Monday, said Wilkesboro Police Lt. Tommy Rhodes.
Rhodes said the charges involve accusations that Austin kept cash from some transactions or kept deposits she was supposed to make on behalf of the company she'd worked for, Advanced Electronics.
The five charges are for each of the five years during which authorities believe the crimes took place. Rhodes said he could not comment on what authorities suspect Austin did with the money.
She has a court date scheduled for April 8 in Wilkes District Court.
