Authorities have released the name of the pilot killed when a small plane crashed near Archdale's Darr Airport Saturday.
Donald Earl Marks, 62, of High Point died when the plane crashed shortly after 9 a.m. at the airfield off Trindale Road near N.C. 62, Archdale Police said yesterday.
When police officers arrived, they found the single-occupant plane engulfed in flames with the pilot still inside.
Officers told WGHP/FOX 8 that it appeared that the plane hit power lines, a tree and the top of a house before coming down in the field.
Eyewitnesses said that the pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings at the airport, and no one noticed the sound of the engine having any trouble, the television station also reported.
State and federal agencies are continuing to investigate, police said
