Davidson County deputies found more than 2,300 marijuana plants in a wooded area in Denton Wednesday, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office said today in a news release.
Davidson County Sheriff David Grice and three deputies walked into the woods Wednesday to investigate an outdoor marijuana operation. They found an operation with nine separate plots, a gravity-fed irrigation system, a loaded 9mm pistol and a campsite that could hold three people, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies removed 2,379 marijuana plants ranging from 3 inches in height to 2 feet, the sheriff's office said. If the plants had grown to maturity, they would have produced marijuana with a street value of $1,000 to $1,300 per pound, the sheriff's office said.
One person fled into the woods as deputies approached. No arrests have been made, and the sheriff's office is still investigating.
