Dobson officials have suspended Town Manager Lynn Burcham with pay as the district office in Surry County investigates her for alleged embezzlement of town money.
The Dobson Board of Commissioners took the action Sunday after they discussed the matter in closed session for two hours.
After the meeting, the board issued a statement saying that "effective immediately, the town manager is being placed on a non-disciplinary suspension with pay pending further review."
The Mount Airy News reported last week that it had obtained documents in which a source accused Burcham of using town money for own use, sometimes replacing the money at a later date.
Town Attorney Hugh Campbell said yesterday that a non-disciplinary suspension means that the commissioners did not find any wrongdoing with Burcham's actions, but they decided it was appropriate to suspend her because the district attorney's office is investigating the case and it is the town's best interest.
The commissioners have appointed a committee to work with the N.C. League of Municipalities to find an interim manager for the town, Campbell said.
