Kirk Turner, the Clemmons dentist on trial on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, will testify, one of his attorneys said in Davie Superior Court today.
The trial started this morning with pre-trial motions and jury selection was scheduled to begin this afternoon. His attorneys have filed notice that they will argue self-defense.
Turner, 52, is accused of killing his estranged wife, Jennifer Turner, on Sept. 12, 2007. Davie County sheriff's deputies found her body in the shop building of the house the couple shared on Jack Booe Road.
Jennifer Turner had gashes across her throat, both severing her windpipe. The couple had been separated for more than a year, and Kirk Turner had filed for divorce. The separation had been acrimonious, and Jennifer Turner had filed a lawsuit against the woman with whom she alleged her husband was having an affair.
Kirk Turner has said that his wife had attacked him with a spear, stabbing him in the thigh and groin area, according to court records.
After jury selection is done, the trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
