The mayors of Kernersville, Clemmons and Lewisville filed for re-election yesterday, the first day that candidates could file for nonpartisan, municipal elections in Forsyth County.
Dawn Morgan of Kernersville is running for her first full term as mayor. In January 2008, the town's board of aldermen elected Morgan as mayor after former Mayor Curtis Swisher resigned to become town manager. If re-elected, Morgan will serve a two-year term as mayor.
John Bost is running for his second term as mayor of Clemmons. If re-elected, Bost will serve a two-term.
Dan Pugh is running for his second term as mayor of Lewisville. If re-elected, Pugh will serve a two-year term.
Kevin Bugg filed for re-election as a Kernersville alderman. He won a seat on the town's board of aldermen in 2007.
Ernest T. Johnson Jr. also filed for a seat as a Kernersville alderman. He is running for his first public office. Aldermen are elected at large to two-year terms.
In Rural Hall, Herman C. Denny is running for his third term as a member of the town's board of commissioners. Commissioners are elected at large and serve four-year terms.
In Walkertown, Marilyn Martin filed for re-election to a second term as a member of the town council. Martin was elected in November 2007. Peggy Leight also is running for a seat on the council. Leight is the chairwoman of the town's planning board.
In Clemmons, Al Harbury filed for re-election to the village council. Harbury was elected in November 2007.
Jack Ingle and Sharon Coburn also are running for seats on the Clemmons Village Council. Coburn is running for her first public office. Ingle could not be reached for comment.
Three Clemmons council seats are up for election in November --two four-year terms and a two-year term.
In Bethania, Rosalie H. Horton filed for a seat on the town's board of commissioners. Horton could not be reached for comment. Bethania town board members serve four-year terms.
The filing period closes July 17. The general election is Nov. 3.
