IN THE ARTS
□ The Central Carolina Children's Chorus celebrated its 10th anniversary in May.
The chorus is an auditioned, multi-leveled choir program consisting of singers from the ages of 8-18, from Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. It is a partner with the Music Ministries of Centenary United Methodist Church and an educational affiliate of Bel Canto Company.
The chorus is under the direction of Anne M. Saxon, founding Artistic Director.
IN EDUCATION
□ Kristen Leigh Moorefield has graduated from UNC Greensboro with a degree in international and global studies and a concentration in Russian studies. She completed her education while studying abroad in Kazan, Russia, and was inducted in 2008 into Dobro Slovo, The National Slavic Honor Society. She plans to go back to Russia in August to do an internship with Campus Crusade for Christ.
Moorefield is a 2004 graduate of Reynolds High School, and she is the daughter of Joe and Sharon Moorefield of Lewisville.
□ Sana Tariq has won the Winston-Salem Junior Woman's Club Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high-school senior at Parkland High School, who exhibits good character and scholastic abilities, ambition, leadership, a potential to succeed and financial need.
Tariq is a senior at Parkland High School and will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill next year with plans to major in biology. She is a member of Parkland's Academic Team, an artist with her award-winning artwork with the North Carolina Association of Educators and the Minority Affairs Commission, and is an active member of The Community Mosque Academy.
Tariq is the daughter of Chaudhry T.M. Hintra and Rukhsana Kausar.

□ Joey Denise Slayton is among 54 University of Mississippi College of Liberal Arts students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa this spring. He is a senior English major, and he is the son of Joseph Slayton of Kernersville and Brenda Slayton of Pelahatchie, Miss.
□ Brad Sisk has graduated summa cum laude from Pfeiffer University with a B.S. in criminal science. While at Pfeiffer, he played soccer and served as the school's soccer team captain during his last two years. His honors and awards include the first Bart Purpeau Excellence Award in Criminal Justice, the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All Region Team and the Fred West Academic Achievement Award.

Richard Conrad Spangler IV graduated with a B.A. in history and economics. He is a graduate of Reynolds High School, and he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Spangler III of Winston-Salem.
□ Worth Alexander Younts has been accepted to the School of Design at N.C. State University. He recently completed his first year of college at Forsyth Tech Community College and was named to the Deans List. He will enter NCSU in the fall as a sophomore seeking a degree in architecture.
□ Katie Browne of Winston Salem, earned a Religious Studies Scholar Award from the College of Charleston's School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
□ Rashad Wilkerson and Christine Urbowicz are the Forsyth County winners of the Sons of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. Each has been awarded a scholarship prize by the Bethania chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Christine attends West Forsyth High School, and she is the daughter of Margaret Urbowicz of Clemmons.
Rashad attends Parkland High School, and he is the son of Robin and Tony Wilkerson of Winston-Salem.
□ Four Wake Forest University seniors and two graduates will teach English abroad through Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships for 2009-2010.
The four senior recipients are:

Grace Johnson of Champaign, Ill., will teach in Taiwan.
Michael Lewis of Brownsboro, Ala., will teach in Germany.

□ Cooper Lindel, a student at Forsyth Country Day School, recently served as a page for the North Carolina House of Representatives.
He is the son of Mike and Meredith Lindel of Winston-Salem, and was sponsored by Representative Dale Folwell (R-Forsyth).
IN THE MILITARY
□ Lance Corporal Samuel A. Wright completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island in March after finishing 12 weeks of physical, mental training in the field and classroom. He has now finished his combat training at Camp Geiger and is sta-
tioned at Camp Lejeune untill January when his outfit will be deployed to Afghanistan.
Wright is a 2008 graduate of North Davidson High School, and he is the son of Robert Wright of Thomasville and Christine D. Wright of Winston-Salem.
□ Army National Guard Home Land Security Pvt2 Benjamin D. Heath has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He also completed A.I.T. training at Fort Eustis, Va. He is now an aircraft technician specializing in helicopter repair and maintenance.
Heath is the son of William and Lorinda Heath of Walnut Cove.
□ Air Force Airman Zachary W. Welborn graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and has earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Don Welborn of Wilkesboro and Gwen Fagerberg of Winston- Salem, and he is a 2008 graduate of Northwest Guilford High School.
□ Air National Guard Airman Justin W. Condon graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and has earned credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He earned distinction as an honor graduate.
Condon is the son of Ronald Condon of Winston-Salem and is a 2005 graduate of North Davidson High School.
□ Air Force Airman Andrew W. Waddell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and has earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Wade and Charlotte Waddell of Kernersville, and he is a 2004 graduate of East Forsyth High School.
IN SCOUTING
□ Thomas Claxton Gravitt, a member of Boy Scout Troop 914 at Kingswood United Methodist Church, has been awarded the Eagle Scout Award. For his project, Thomas constructed an information kiosk for the Sauratown Trails Association.
Thomas is the son of Van and Sara Gravitt of King, and he is a Junior at West Stokes High School.
IN SPORTS
□ Kayla Duncan has won the Sportsmanship Award at the USTA Southern Closed tennis tournament in Little Rock, Ark.
Duncan, a native of Winston-Salem and a rising sophomore at Texas Christian University, reached the semifinals in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles in the Girls 18s division.
IN OTHER AREAS
□ Leadership North Carolina has announced the names of its Leadership Awards. The local recipients are: Bob Parker, vice president of special operations and community health for North Carolina Baptist Hospital; Haywood Edmundson, senior vice president and head of corporate banking for First Tennessee Bank; Rico Wagner, owner of Heritage Home Care Agency, Inc.; Bailey Jordan, a partner of Grant Thornton LLP; and Jeff Maddox, Vice President for United Healthcare.
Leadership North Carolina Program's mission is to inform, develop and engage committed leaders by broadening their understanding of and involvement in issues and opportunities facing our state. The program cultivates a network of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences who represent the many geographic areas of the state and who are committed to volunteer service.
