BOONE – Police Chief Bill Post will retire on Aug. 1, the town of Boone announced today.
Post, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, has been chief in Boone since 1998. Prior to that, he'd served with the Hickory Police Dept. for nearly 20 years.
Post said in a statement that the Boone Police Dept. has an excellent relationship with the community and he expects that to continue.
"It has been a distinct honor and privilege to work for the town," he said. "I'm very proud of the men and women of the department and am confident the Boone Police Dept. will move forward in a positive fashion."
A retirement recognition event is open to the public and will be 2-4 p.m. July 29 at the Broyhill Inn. Presentations will be made at 3 p.m.
Organizers suggest that people who wish to honor Post may do so by donating to the John Knapp Memorial Scholarship, a fund of the Watauga County Community Foundation, which provides scholarships to children or spouses of Watauga County area law enforcement officers. The address is N.C. Community Foundation, John Knapp Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27604.
