Three N.C. State Recruits Will Not Enroll

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Three of N.C. State's football recruits will not enroll in school in the forthcoming academic year, and reserve cornerback Dominique Ellis has decided to transfer to another school.

Coach Tom O'Brien said in a statement released this morning by school athletics officials that Tyson Chandler, an offensive lineman from North Plainfield, N.J.; Raynard Randolph, a defensive tackle from Brandywine, Md., and Bryan Underwood, a receiver from University Heights, Ohio, would not enroll. No reason was given.

Chandler and Randolph did not immediately return phone messages left by the Winston-Salem Journal to discuss their plans.

Sources in Raleigh said that all three players are still committed to N.C. State and will likely attend prep school and enroll either in January for the second semester or will enroll next year.

Ellis, a rising sophomore cornerback who played at East Wake High School, did not say in a prepared statement if he has other schools in mind for finishing his college career. He had 13 tackles last season as a freshman while playing in all 13 games, mostly on special teams.

"I appreciate everything the N.C. State coaching staff has done for me and taught me," Ellis said. "I learned a lot from them but at this time, I think that for personal reasons it's in my best interest to continue my career at another school."
