Durham police officer shot responding to burglary

DURHAM
Police officials in North Carolina say an officer is in surgery after being shot during a call to a burglary in progress in Durham.

Multiple media outlets report that the shooting occurred about 4 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex.

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez says the officer is expected to recover. The officer was identified as D.J. Youmans.

Lopez says officers are questioning people about the gunshots that came from an apartment.
