Man injured in wreck on U.S. 52 dies

A Winston-Salem man was charged with driving while impaired yesterday after he was involved in a crash that killed a passenger in his car, police said.

The crash occurred just after 3 a.m. Sunday. Augustine Mucio Perez was driving northbound on U.S. 52 when he lost control of his car near Vargrave Street, police said. The car flipped end-over-end several times before coming to rest on the side of the roadway.

A passenger in the car, Sergio Humberto Morales-Arriaga, 28, of 1600 N. Martin Street Apt. N, was ejected from the car. He was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he later died.

Perez 29, 0f 2232 Marble St., was treated and released for his injuries. He was charged with DWI and driving without an operator's license. He was being held in the Forsyth County jail under a $5,000 bond.
