BOONE -- Two people were shot Thursday in Watauga County during an apparent domestic dispute, according to the Watauga County Sheriff's Office.

Johnny Greene shot Kimberly Greene with a rifle and then shot himself, authorities said. Both live at 480 Diamond Ranch Road, although a sheriff's report did not say what their relationship is.

They were flown to Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee, where they were listed in serious condition yesterday.

A 911 call at 6:22 p.m. Thursday reported a domestic dispute at the house. Officers were on the way when a second 911 call reported that two people had been shot.

When officers arrived at the home, they found Kimberly Greene shot in the abdomen and Johnny Greene shot in the chest, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities are investigating.

Motorcyclist runs into car and dies of his injuries

A Winston-Salem motorcyclist died yesterday afternoon after colliding with a car on Old Lexington Road.

Winston-Salem police said that Allen Royce Turner, 54, of 5085 Fox Hill Road was riding a KTM motorcycle north in the 3900 block of Old Lexington Road about 1:40 p.m. He crossed into the southbound lane in a curve and collided with a car driven by Leroy Debusk of 7430 Friendship Ledford Road.

Police said they do not know why Turner crossed the centerline.

Turner was thrown from the motorcycle, and died at the scene, police said. Debusk was taken to Forsyth Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

It is Winston-Salem's first traffic fatality of 2009.

Davidson jail inmate faces assault, other charges

A man in the Davidson County Jail on a DWI conviction now faces new charges in connection with an assault on a detention officer, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office said yesterday.

About 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Officer Mary Yelton was escorting an inmate to the nurse's station, when he turned on her and shoved her across the hallway. Yelton's head struck a concrete wall, and she fell to the floor, striking her head again, officials said.

The inmate hit Yelton several times, removed her keys and tried to release several other inmates locked in the visitation room. The other inmates had also been waiting to see a nurse, officials said.

Yelton got up and used pepper spray on the inmate. Officer Jimmy Koots wrestled the inmate and then administered a "drive stun" to the inmate's leg. Koots then put handcuffs on the inmate.

Yelton was treated at Lexington Memorial Hospital and released late Thursday night.

Koots was not injured.

Rodney Anthony Lowe, 42, of 209 W. Main St., Apt. F, in Thomasville, was charged with one count of felony assault on a government official inflicting serious injury, one count of a misdemeanor assault on a government official, one count of felony common law robbery, and one count of misdemeanor attempted escape from a local jail.

Lowe was serving a 30-day sentence for driving while impaired.
