A wet and windy commute this morning

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The morning commute will be wet and windy for most drivers this morning, with wind gusts of up to 40 mph, the National Weather Service said this morning.

A band of heavy showers is moving in ahead of a strong cold front moving northeasterly across the region, the weather service said. It will be accompanied by periods of heavy rain and wind gusts, which will combine to reduce visibility to just a few hundred feet and could lead to large puddles on the roads.

A wind advisory is in effect in Forsyth, Davidson and Guilford counties until midnight tonight.

Duke Energy reported 7,000 customers in the Kernersville area were without power earlier this morning after a tarp from a nearby construction site blew free and struck some power equipment. The power was restored to those customers just after 7 a.m., a Duke Energy spokesman said. By about 10: 30 a.m., the utility reported 5,000 customers were without power in North and South Carolina, but only two of them were in Forsyth County.

Today's forecast for Winston-Salem is for showers, mainly before 1 p.m., and a high of 54 degrees.
