Whichard retires as Daily Reflector publisher

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A newspaper publisher whose family founded The Daily Reflector of Greenville is retiring both from the paper and as group publisher of Cox North Carolina Publications Inc.
D. Jordan "Jordy" Whichard will retire immediately after 23 years at the company. Along with The Daily Reflector, Whichard oversaw daily newspapers in Rocky Mount and Elizabeth City and 10 non-dailies.
Brian Cooper, currently the executive vice president of Atlanta-based Cox Newspapers, will take over as interim publisher.
Whichard said Cox's recent announcement that it will seek a buyer for its North Carolina papers in 2009 gave him the opportunity to pursue other interests. Cox bought the Daily Reflector from Whichard's family in 1996.
