An Elkin man died Saturday after he lost control of his pick-up near Elkin and was thrown from the truck, officials with the N.C. Highway Patrol said.
Douglas Wayne Colvard, 26, of 309 Blue Ridge Ave. was traveling north on C.B. Eller School Road near Elkin shortly after 10:30 p.m. when the truck ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned.
Colvard was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he later died, highway patrol officials said.
Christopher Williams, 29, a passenger in the truck, was taken to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin and treated for minor injuries.
Speed was a contributing factor in the wreck, officials also said.
