Police arrest man on first degree kidnapping charge

Winston-Salem police have arrested a man who they say assaulted and kidnapped his girlfriend Sunday morning.

Demario Lamont Alexander, 24, of 904 E. Third Street, Apt. D, was charged with first degree kidnapping, assault on a female, communicating threats and resist and delay of an officer. He has three outstanding warrants against him for probation violation and two for violation of a domestic violence order, for violence against another woman.

Alexander was being held without bond at the Forsyth County Jail.

Police accuse him of going to his 20-year-old girlfriend's apartment in the 1200 block of East 11th Street hitting her in the face and forcing her to leave with him. Police were told he had a handgun at the time.

Officers investigating the incident found Alexander and the woman inside his apartment late Sunday morning.

Officers and the department's Special Enforcement Team negotiated by phone for Alexander to surrender. He was arrested without incident at about 2:15 p.m.

The woman was not injured and no gun was found, police said.
