Fire at southern Winston-Salem apartment displaces six

A fire late Saturday afternoon in Southern Winston-Salem left six people without an apartment.

Battalion Chief Robert Ellis of the Winston-Salem Fire Department said that the fire at 2883 Whitemeadow Lane, did about $30,000 in damage.

He said that the two adults and four children who lived in the apartment would be staying with family.

Ellis said that the fire was caused by an overloaded extension cord.
