The National Weather Service is warning residents of Northwest North Carolina about the potential for high winds today.
Several counties, including Forsyth, are under a wind advisory until 6 p.m. as a cold front passes over the area.
Winds today are expected to increase to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible late this morning through the afternoon, the weather service said. Soggy conditions on the ground could lead to fallen trees and downed power lines.
Showers are likely, mainly before 10 a.m. in Forsyth County, with gradually clearing skies this afternoon. The high today is expected to be 61 degrees.
