The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., issued a winter weather advisory Tuesday night for sleet and freezing rain in Northwest North Carolina until at least 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The frozen precipitation is expected to fall along eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, said Jim Hudgins, a meteorologist for weather service in Blacksburg. In higher elevations, light ice on trees and some bridges was expected.
Temperatures are expected to rise to upper 30s after daybreak, Hudgins said.
In the Triad, forecasts call for rain this morning with overnight temperatures expected to dip as low as 37 degrees before reaching a high of about 60 by noon, said Scott Sharp, a meteorologist with the weather service in Raleigh. Breezy conditions are also expected with winds ranging from 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph.
