Affair costs former prison therapist her license

RALEIGH
North Carolina regulators have revoked the license of a prison therapist who had an affair with one of her patients after he was released, then shot him during a fight.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday that Kristel Rider can reapply to the N.C. Psychological Board after one year.

Rider admitted to regulators that she had a sexual relationship with her former patient starting the night Lamount Friend was released from Neuse Correctional Institution in April.

Legal and ethics rules prohibit psychologists from having romantic relationships with their clients.

Rider lost her Correction Department job after shooting Friend in the back less than three weeks after his release. She was not charged with any crime.
