A fire Monday night displaced two adults and two children and caused $100,000 in damage to a house at 357 Natalie Drive, authorities said yesterday.
The fire likely started shortly before 5:40 in the basement and spread into the house, the Winston-Salem Fire Department said. It took 17 firefighters about 50 minutes to put out the fire.
When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the front door, the front bedroom window and front porch, the fire department said.
Kenneth and Maria Combs and two children live in the house, the fire department said. The American Red Cross is assisting the Combses.
The fire department is investigating how the fire started.

State Bar hearing for legislator delayed
RALEIGH -- A disciplinary hearing by the N.C. State Bar examining alleged misconduct by a state House member has been delayed.
The chairman of a panel that will listen to the case of Rep. Nick Mackey agreed to delay the hearing previously scheduled to begin Thursday. Mackey's attorney asked last month for more time to prepare. A new hearing date hasn't been set but it can be no sooner than early January.
Mackey is a Mecklenburg County Democrat and lawyer accused of breaking bar rules by failing to file timely tax returns and failing to mention on his bar application that he was investigated while he was a police officer.
Mackey could face punishment ranging from written warnings to disbarment if it is determined that he broke bar rules.
