Winston-Salem police are investigating the death of a man who was shot in a home on Country Club Road Monday.
Police Capt. David Clayton said this morning that officers went to Forsyth Medical Center just after 8 p.m. after getting a report that a Hispanic man had been taken there with a gunshot wound.
Clayton said the man was alert when he arrived but said little about what happened. The victim was then transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he died during surgery just before midnight, Clayton said.
Police have not yet identified the victim, Clayton said. He said the victim was shot in the abdomen or chest.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Clayton said a person who was with the man when he was taken to the hospital said the shooting had occurred in a brick home in the 4700 block of Country Club Road, west of the intersection with Jonestown Road.
Crime scene investigators were searching for clues in the home overnight and this morning.
No one has been charged. Clayton said the investigation is in the early stages, but at this point there are few leads.
"We still don't know exactly what happened," he said.
