Two firefighters hit by lightning, suffer minor injuries

Lightning from a thunderstorm in Surry County tonight struck two firefighters and caused fires at three houses off Siloam Road near the Ararat community, authorities said.
The firefighters, who work for the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, had minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital, authorities said.
Duke Energy Corp. reported at 9 p.m. that 289 customers had lost power in Surry. The storm also knocked down some trees and flooded some roads in eastern Surry.
A person was trapped in a greenhouse with rising waters, but family members rescued the person, authorities said.
