An employee of East Surry High School has been fired and faces a felony sex charge after authorities accused her of having sex with a student, police said.
Deborah W. Sechrist, 44, a bus driver and cafeteria worker, was arrested Monday, said Pilot Mountain police chief Darryl Bottoms.
Investigators found evidence that Sechrist and a male senior at the school began a relationship that turned sexual in November, Bottoms said. Sechrist was fired last month.
Sechrist had worked for the school system since 1999, Bottoms said.
School administrators passed along a tip about the alleged relationship to the school's SRO officer, who notified the Pilot Mountain Police Department, Bottoms said.
Sechrist was cooperative with investigators and apologetic, Sechrist said.
Sechrist has been released on a $50,000 bond, Bottoms said. Her next court date is scheduled for April 27.
