Chad Campbell picked the wrong time to miss a short putt.
On the first playoff hole at 18 he missed a four-footer for par that ended his chance at his first major.
"I guess I just left the blade open," he said about the miss. "It was left-edge and I just missed it."
Steve Stricker relieved the tension around his bunker shot on 16 when he asked some of the fans behind him.
"I said 'Where's Tiger Woods when you need him,'" Stricker said.
Stricker was going to try and duplicate the difficult chip shot Woods hit in 2005 that has been a highlight since.
"I was going to throw it up on the hill and let it come back and I ended up making par," he said, "but (the fans) got a kick out of that, I guess."
Fuzzy Zoeller was enjoying the day at Augusta National by hanging out near the clubhouse around 1 p.m.
He watched Tiger and Phil tee off and wearing a casual shirt and slacks looked very much at ease.
He had a chance to reflect on his final Masters.
"I don't have to come here and chase the ball anymore," he said. "It will be different when I come back next year."
When reminded that he will chase the ball at the par-3 contest he said: "Yeah, but that's easy."
Zoeller, who will play some on the Champions Tour, said he will likely play in the Greater Hickory Classic in September.
"Last year I couldn't play because I went to a big wedding," he said.
Dustin Johnson, playing in his first Masters, had consecutive eagles on 13 and 14 yesterday. On 14 he eagled the par-4 by hitting a 182-yard 6-iron from the pine straw that that went into the hole.
"I mean, I knew it was good when I hit it, but I didn't think it was going in," he said. "Then I saw the crowd, everybody behind the green jump up-and-down. That was pretty cool."
John Merrick, who was playing in his first Masters, had the best round of the day with a 66 with seven birdies and one bogey.
Merrick played well enough to get an invitation back to next year's Master. The top 16 and ties are invited back and Merrick tied for sixth.
"They set the course up awesome," he said. "This place rewards a good shot more than any other course."
