»  Comments | Post a Comment

A 39-year-old Pinnacle man was killed early today in a single-vehicle accident near Pilot Mountain, authorities said.
Lonnie Burke of 101 Pilot Campground, Lot 4, was the driver of a car that went off of Old Westfield Road at about 12:30 a.m. and hit a tree, said John Shelton, Surry County's director of emergency services.
The car was not discovered until later that morning when a school bus driver came upon the car and called 911. Burke was dead when authorities arrived. He was alone in the car, Shelton said.
The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating and has not determined a cause.
