MORAVIAN FALLS
A 79-year-old Wilkes County man was shot in the head Monday evening, according to a report at the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Wesley Smith Sr., of 126 Dixie Rock Road, was shot once in the head with a .22 caliber pistol. The shooting happened at his home at 7 p.m. Monday, according to authorities.
He was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. His condition was not available this morning.
A suspect was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to the report, which did not list the name of anyone arrested. Authorities did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
