Ted Royster, a district court judge in Davidson County, remained in critical condition yesterday afternoon after a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon, WGHP/FOX8 reported.

Royster, 62, of Lexington, was taking part in a fundraising ride with friends, according to a statement released by his family.

After stopping at a gas station on N.C. Highway 109 in Denton, Royster's motorcycle stalled then lunged forward. Royster was thrown from his bike after steering to avoid the motorcycle in front of him, the statement said.

Royster was taken to Thomasville Medical Center before being transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The extent of his injuries was not known yesterday.

Royster is running for election this November to a seat as a superior court judge in new Judicial District 22-B in Davidson and Davie counties.
