Authorities say a Brunswick County deputy sheriff was injured Monday when he responded to a house near Winnabow where a man had barged in and hit a parked car with an ax.
Detective Steve Mason said that the deputy and the suspect were taken to Brunswick Community Hospital.
Witnesses said that the deputy appeared to have a cut on his head. The man wasn't identified, and Mason said he wasn't sure of his injuries. The deputy's name was not released.
Mason said that the suspect had been abusing medication and drinking alcohol. The detective said that the man would be charged with breaking and entering, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer.
