A new helicopter is arriving for use by the North Carolina Army National Guard for general support in noncombat environments.
The National Guard said state adjutant general Maj. Gen. William Ingram Jr. will preside over a ceremony for the UH-72A Lakota helicopter Monday afternoon at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Morrisville.
Pilots and crew have been trained to operate the Lakota, which has a crew of two and can carry up to six passengers. The helicopter will be used for security missions, reconnaissance, search and rescue and drug detection.
The guard said the Lakota will allow the military to use UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters in combat missions.
