A 25-year-old Thomasville woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman found two years ago wrapped in a plastic bag and carpet.
Jennifer Saundra Price of 179 Stephens Lane is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. She was served with an arrest warrant Thursday and had her first court appearance yesterday.
An employee of Mid-State Industries found the body of Cynthia Bullock Wingard on Oct. 9, 2006, near a parking lot along Carmalt Street.
A preliminary autopsy report concluded that Wingard could have been dead as long as two weeks. Authorities have not said how she died. Her last known address was 105 Council St., but she also lived in several other places.
The arrest warrant says that Price, who is also known as Jennifer White, knew that Elijah Alphonso Hair Jr. had killed Wingard on or about Sept. 28, 2006, and that she helped Hair dispose of the murder weapon and Wingard's body.
The warrant does not identify the murder weapon nor does it give any details about the killing. Hair has not been charged in the case.
Lt. Raymond Widener of the Thomasville Police Department would not discuss the case nor talk about whether Hair would be charged.
"That's an open investigation," he said.
District Attorney Garry Frank also would not comment.
According to court records, Hair, 28, of 621 Locust St. in Kannapolis, has an order for arrest for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge from 2006. He was scheduled to appear in court May 5. He was accused of stealing a television from a Wal-Mart store in October 2006, according to court records.
Hair failed to appear in court twice before, first on Nov. 9, 2006, and again on Jan. 31, 2008, also on the shoplifting charge, according to court records.
The Thomasville Police Department had offered a $3,000 reward for information in the Wingard case.
Price was in the Davidson County Jail yesterday, with bond set at $250,000.
