Combs, Miller and walpole win seats on the Watauga County Board of Education

Watauga County voters elected three members to the county Board of Education yesterday. Results were complete, but unofficial.
Winning seats in the nonpartisan race were incumbent Steve Combs, with 12,610 votes; along with Deborah H. Miller, 11,719; and Marsha Walpole, 8,627.
Not winning seats were David Albert Ward, with 8,563 votes; and Joni (Johnny) Horine, 8,517.
Voters in the town of Boone approved a water bond referendum, with 5,534 votes "yes" to 2,085 votes "no."
Three Democratic candidates for the Watauga County Board of Commissioners were unopposed. Winning the District 1 seat was Tim Futrelle, with 16,034 votes; the District 3 seat, incumbent Chairman Jim Deal, 16,609; and District 5, incumbent Winston Kinsey, 15,961.
Incumbent JoAnn Townsend, a Republican, was unopposed for Watauga County Register of Deeds. She received 16,147 votes.
