Winston-Salem police car hit by driver running stop sign

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Winston-Salem police officer's car was struck yesterday when another driver ran a stop sign.
Officer C.R. Helf was driving south on Old Rural Hall Road about 4 a.m. when his car was struck by a car driven by James Robert Brown who was driving west on Don Avenue.
Helf's car was knocked into a power pole guide wire and rolled over. Police say that an investigation determined that Brown ran the stop sign at Don Avenue. He was charged with running a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, having no insurance and possession of a stolen license tag.
Helf and Brown were both treated and released at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Both vehicles appear to be a total loss. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
