Butler wins primary for 45th Senate seat

Boone dentist Jerry Butler won the Republican primary for the state Senate's 45th District, beating Taylorsville businessman Dwight Shook. Butler received 7,629 votes to Shook's 6,551 votes. Butler faces incumbent Democrat Steve Goss in November. The district is Alexander, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
