GREENSBORO
Lawyers for the jailed son of North Carolina State's basketball coach say Sidney Lowe II was scared and made a homemade knife to protect himself.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported today that attorneys for Lowe said in a statement their client had been threatened by other inmates.
Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes said a knife made from a plastic spoon and pieces of metal were found in Lowe's cell.
The younger Lowe was sentenced earlier this month to 15 months confinement on guilty pleas from a robbery in Greensboro.
Barnes said Lowe pleaded guilty to a disciplinary charge and that another infraction could lead to disciplinary measures.
