■ Michael J. Allen of Carruthers & Roth P.A. in Greensboro has been named to the board of directors of Legal Netlink Alliance.

He is an attorney and shareholder with Carruthers & Roth who focuses his practice in intellectual-property litigation, licensing and counseling, business, commercial and estate litigation, contracts, and distribution counseling.

Legal Netlink Alliance is a worldwide alliance of midsized, general practice independent law firms.

■ David L. Holden with Holden Mickey & Mickey Inc., has been named a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, an international, independent association of the top 1 percent of life insurance and financial services professionals.

The membership of the roundtable represents more than 475 companies in 76 nations and territories. Members demonstrate exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client service. Membership in the roundtable is recognized internationally as the standard of sales excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.

Holden is a Chartered Life Underwriter and has obtained his Certified Financial Planner certification and is certified in long term care insurance. He is a graduate of Wake Forest University and has been with Holden Mickey & Mickey since 2003.

Brandon Smith of Winston-Salem and Michelle Stewart of Charlotte have received company scholarships from Murray Supply Company.

Smith graduated with honors from Union Grove Christian School. He plans to attend Garner Webb University in the fall and is planning to major in religion or political science.

Stewart attended Butler High School and plans to attend Appalachian State University this fall and major in communication.

■ Barry E. Stein of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has been elected president of the Association of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Neurobiology Chairpersons. Stein received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Queens College in New York City. He completed his doctoral degree at City University of New York. Stein was a National Institutes of Health post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Anatomy and the Brain Research Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine.

Stein has been professor and chairman of the Department of Neurobiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine since 1994. He is also currently an affiliate professor with the Women's Health Center of Excellence.

■ Jim Wall, a partner at the law firm Wall Esleeck Babcock LLP in Winston-Salem, has been appointed to the Executive Council of the Health Law Section of the N.C. Bar Association. He has experience in counseling corporate and health-care clients in contractual relationships.

He is a certified mediator and has been recognized as a Legal Elite by Business North Carolina magazine and was selected to be included in the health-care section of The Best Lawyers in America 2008.

Wall is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.

■ Two lawyers with Bennett & Guthrie LLC have received awards form the N.C. Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

Joshua H. Bennett received a Star of the Quarter Award for organizing Ask a Lawyer Day on April 4.

Roberta B. King received an award for her work as a division director, overseeing four division committees. These committees include the Poverty Issues Committee and Law and Aging Committee. The Poverty Issues committee provides question-and-answer legal clinics throughout the state for people who might not have access to legal services. The Law and Aging Committee had a Healthcare Power of Attorney project at Cancer Services, where forms regarding Advance Directives were prepared for local residents and focused on cancer patients and survivors.

■ Dr. Howard Blumstein of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been elected vice president of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He will serve as vice president until 2010.

He is an associate professor and medical director of the Emergency Department.

Blumstein received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed a residency and fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.

■ J.G. Coram Co. Inc., a construction company based in Mount Airy with offices in Charlotte and North Myrtle Beach, S.C., is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The company was founded in 1978 by Jerry Coram Sr., and is working on becoming LEED accredited for the construction of environmentally sensitive green buildings.

■ Donald L. Crump of Greensboro has been appointed to the N.C. Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing by Gov. Mike Easley. He received his bachelor's degree in English from Gallaudet University in Washington, and is retired.

The council makes recommendations to the secretary of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services about services to people who are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf and blind.

■ DataChambers has renewed its contract with Premier, a health-care alliance for disaster recovery and business continuity services.

Premier operates a health-care purchasing network and a repository of hospital clinical and financial information.

Its clients include more than 2,000 hospitals in the United States and 53,000 other health-care provider sites.

DataChambers specializes in electronic data storage, network and monitoring solutions, managed information technology solutions, co-location services, secure tape vaulting, and offsite records storage and management.
