PORTSMOUTH, Va.
Coast Guard rescue crews are searching for a kayaker who apparently disappeared near Albemarle Sound.
A statement from the Coast Guard said officials received word from North Carolina Wildlife that 19-year-old Curtis Cooper of Richmond, Va., was overdue after hearing from his girlfriend.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew from the air station at Elizabeth City located an overturned yellow kayak, the same color as Cooper's, at 5:33 p.m. approximately six miles from the last known position. The crew will continue search efforts from the air.
