HAVANA -- A Cuban court convicted a punk rocker of public disorder yesterday, but freed him after dismissing a more serious charge of "social dangerousness" that could have brought him four years behind bars.
After a two-hour trial, the court ordered Gorki Aguila, who is known for his raunchy railings against Fidel Castro, to pay 600 pesos ($28) and said that he would be released.
The fine is big money in a country where nearly everyone, Aguila included, works for the state. The average take-home pay is 408 pesos a month.
