INDEPENDENCE, VA. – An Ashe County man facing capital murder charges in connection with a triple killing at a Grayson County Christmas tree farm is scheduled to be in court Friday for a hearing related to new charges.

Freddie Hammer, 48, of Crumpler, was in court Aug. 4 for 5 ½ hours as a prosecutor laid out evidence against him in the Feb. 24 shooting deaths of farm owner Ron Hudler, 73; son Fred Hudler, 44, and farm worker John Miller Jr., 25.

A grand jury has since indicted Hammer on additional charges, including grand larceny and robbery. He's expected in court Friday for a brief hearing to determine if he wants to have his attorneys represent him on the new charges.
