HICKORY - A North Carolina congressman has threatened a re-election opponent with legal action for a campaign ad that criticizes the congressman for shooting a video in Iraq.
The Hickory Daily Record reported today that an attorney for Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry said in a letter to primary challenger Lance Sigmon that the ad contained inaccurate statements.
McHenry shot video of a rocket attack on a U.S. base during a trip to Baghdad's Green Zone in March. The video was briefly posted on his Web site.
Sigmon's ad said the video showed locations of American personnel and may have helped insurgents who killed two soldiers in a later attack. The lawyer's letter said the video didn't show troop positions.
Sigmon said Monday he wasn't intimidated by the legal threat.
