A week after a Davie County woman was found dead on her property from knife wounds, the Davie County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the death as a homicide.
The body of Jennifer Jean Wittwer Turner, 54, was found Sept. 12 in a shop building on the 35 acres at 627 Jack Booe Road, north of Mocksville, that she once shared with her husband, Kirk Alan Turner.
The couple had separated more than a year ago, and Kirk Turner, a Clemmons dentist, had gone to the house that night to pick up items in the shop building, Sheriff Andy Stokes has said. A friend was with him but stayed in the car, Stokes said.
Davie County sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a disturbance, at 9:45 p.m., and that's when they found Jennifer Turner's body. She had knife wounds in her throat.
Kirk Turner was also in the shop building, suffering from knife wounds, authorities said.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office has released few details about what happened.
According to civil-court papers filed this week in the Davie County Courthouse, Kirk Turner had multiple stab wounds in his thigh and groin.
Robin Stinson, Kirk Turner's attorney, filed a response Tuesday to a motion filed by Gwendolyn Elizabeth Kennedy, who was named as the executor of Jennifer Turner's estate.
Stinson said in the response that Turner was at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Stinson said that Kirk Turner was on a significant amount of pain medication, making it hard for him to communicate with his attorneys or make business decisions.
Sheriff's Capt. J.D. Hartman said yesterday that Kirk Turner has been released from the hospital. He said he didn't know when Turner was released.
The sheriff's office has talked to Kirk Turner, but investigators plan to interview him more thoroughly, Hartman said.
Preliminary autopsy results have come back about the cause of death, but Hartman declined to comment on the results.
The couple were married Jan. 8, 1984, in Las Vegas and have two adult children.
They separated last year, and the break-up was acrimonious. Jennifer Turner also alleged that Kirk Turner had threatened her, according to a civil suit asking for financial support.
Her husband denied those allegations in his response. There is no record of her having filed for a restraining order against her husband. He accused his estranged wife of causing "severe pain and embarrassment by falsely and publicly accusing him of intending to kill her."
He also accused her of falsely accusing him of physically abusing their two children, the court papers said.
A memorial for Jennifer Turner was held Tuesday at Tanglewood Park.
