NAME: Mayflower Seafood Restaurant
Cimarron straddles Winston-Salem and Clemmons. Ambience is sort of country-western (the look, not the music). Beige walls rise above a pine chair rail with planks underneath. A bar occupies center stage; televisions allow multiple views. Decorative photos follow a local history theme, with shots of regular patrons and the restaurant's past. Some art is original.

Table 16 is one of only two Triad restaurants to have earned a five-star rating from me (the other is Marisol, also in Greensboro).

Lucky Blue's motto, "refined Carolina cuisine," is validated by its food.
District Rooftop Bar and Grille opened in early fall. The bar is located upstairs, with an outdoor heated patio on the roof as well as interior space with multiple televisions. One angle provides quite a view of the Winston-Salem skyline. On a Saturday night, the bar was crowded and very loud. The ambience in the downstairs dining room is warehouse-industrial, with a brick wall, thick wood tables and black chairs. Table tops are high. I could have used a booster seat.
In this time of dissonance, let all candidates, incumbents and constituents proclaim unanimously: Sweet Potatoes is a treasure, epitomizing Southern cuisine that your grandmother would have cooked if she had cooked this well.
NAME: Villa Grill
King's Crab Shack creates a beach-party atmosphere with nets, photos, surfboards and mermaids clad in strategically placed stars. A long bar lines one side, tables and chairs the other. The noise level is loud.
NAME: Shiki
Diamondback Grill has been in operation for 23 years. A tile ceiling absorbs noise and creates muted ambience. The bar includes a sofa area with open fireplace.
Cities is in a free-standing building with a fountain outside, surrounded by ample parking. In a sunken dining area, a huge screen shows projections of cityscapes. Murals depicting film characters flank rock walls. It's an upscale look within casual ambience.
6th and Vine occupies a historic brick building bearing a funky wine and music bar ambience. A sofa section opposite the bar is particularly comfortable. Artistic photographs that are for sale decorate the walls.

Bleu looks urbane and sophisticated. From a two-story dining room, a waterfall cascades above an enclosed fireplace. Original art decorates the walls. One painting transposes Bleu to a Parisian street.

Mozelle's has been operating under its current owners for three years. The interior looks appealingly funky. One section is tent-like; another surrounds an open kitchen. But the air-conditioning fights a losing battle, resulting in atmosphere that is sometimes barely tolerable. I have also been here in winter, when it was too chilly. I plan to restrict visits to moderate weather.
