Documentary features rare works of Joffrey Ballet

"Joffrey: Maverick of American Dance" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Hanesbrands Theatre, 209 N. Spruce St.

The film, directed by Bob Hercules, examines the Joffrey Ballet, documenting how it became the first truly American dance company. Mandy Patinkin narrates the documentary, which features rare excerpts from many Joffrey works, including "Astarte," "Trinity" and "Billboards."

The screening will feature a brief talk with Alex Ewing, former chancellor of UNC School of the Arts and a former Joffrey Ballet general director.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the box office from noon to 6 p.m. weekdays and one hour before show time.
