Mondavi Napa Valley Chardonnay
Anyone looking for a classic Napa chardonnay at a reasonable price need look no further than the 2008 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Chardonnay, (Napa Valley, Calif., $20). This is a step up from the Mondavi "Private Selection" Chardonnay, which comes from California's Central Coast. The Napa chard shows masterful use of oak — not too little and not too much. Its apple aroma has a whiff of toast to it. On the tongue, this wine is creamy but not heavy, with nice tropical flavors. The long finish has a refreshing twist of lemon. Serve with moderately rich fish and chicken dishes. Widely available.
