Learn to build a simple cold frame

Mary Jac Brennan, a Forsyth County Extension agent, will demonstrate how to build a simple cold frame from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Forsyth Agriculture Building, 1450 Fairchild Road.

A cold frame can be used for seed starting and for early growing of cool-season crops. The frame will be constructed using recycled materials. The class is free to the public, but requires registration.

Extension agency offers mentor training

The Forsyth County Cooperative Extension will sponsor a series of community-garden, mentor-training classes at the Forsyth County Agriculture Building, 1450 Fairchild Road. The classes are designed for gardening enthusiasts who would like to share their gardening knowledge. The training includes the American Community Gardening Association curriculum.

The training classes will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 and 29. The classes are free to the public, but require registration.

Lecture covers starting plants from seeds

Workshop discusses history of wine

A workshop on the history of winemaking will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Frank L. Horton Museum Center, 924 S. Main St.

Jennifer Shore Hiatt, grape and wine specialist with Sanders Ridge Winery and Restaurant, will lead the discussion, focusing on Yadkin Valley winemakers along with some wine tasting. Refreshments will be served. The workshop is free to the public, but donations of nonperishable food will be accepted and given to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Meeting planned for public garden

An information and organizational meeting for a community garden in the Walkertown area will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Walkertown Public Library, 2969 Main St. The meeting is part of the "Reap More Than You Sow" initiative.
