Wine: Divine Llama Vineyards 2010 Chardonel Gold.
Cost: $16.
Review: Divine Llama Vineyards is a small vineyard in East Bend. It has become known not only for the llamas on the property, but also for its traminette, a distinctively aromatic wine and hybrid of gewurztraminer that is earning fans in North Carolina. But Divine Llama deserves notice for its success with another hybrid. Chardonel is a hybrid of chardonnay and seyval blanc. Divine Llama's 2010 Chardonel Gold is an unoaked dry white that offers fresh peach and pineapple aromas, and lots of apple flavor in the mouth. It's similar to an unoaked chardonnay, but perhaps a little crisper with more acidity. That makes this wine both a nice sipper on its own and a good food wine served with grilled or sautéed whitefish or seafood. Available at such stores as City Beverage and Barnhill's.
