UNCSA instructor's work published
A poem by Joseph Mills, an author who teaches humanities and writing at UNC School of the Arts, has been published in American Life in Poetry, a syndicated column by Ted Kooser, a former poet laureate.
The column provides newspapers, including The New York Times and online publications, with a contemporary poem each week, along with a brief introduction by Kooser.
In Mills' poem, "How You Know," a father ponders how to answer a daughter's question, "How do you know if it's love?" In his introduction, Kooser writes, "For me, the most worthwhile poetry is that which reaches out and connects with a great number of people, and this one … does just that. Every parent gets questions like the one at the center of this poem." The column can be read at www.americanlifeinpoetry.org/columns/321.html.
"How You Know" is in "Love and Other Collisions," Mills' latest book, published by Press 53 of Winston-Salem.
